Tile work continued to gain in popularity; kitchen walls became expanses of tiles sometimes from the counter to the ceiling in a show of impeccable mosaic like craftsmanship. Another favorite was the octagon tile, artfully arranged in bathrooms, kitchens, and hallways. This shape, while certainly part of the neo-mid century modern emphasis on geometric forms, also holds a classical appeal, sure to remain timeless.

An Organizer’s Dream: Walk-in Kitchen Pantries
A top-rated wish list: the walk-in pantry is a modern practical luxury, these au courant spaces are like the storerooms of grand old homes.
Having this space allows your cooking workspace to be more uncluttered, and creates more room for family togetherness, perhaps homework at the table, games while one person is cooking. This visual storage feature is a great way to save money; one can sort by meals, and not waste. Often the pantry is also used to store special occasion dishes and some boast glass pane doors. There are different ways to approach adding this home feature, you can extend a closet into another room farther, or replace an off-kitchen bathroom or underused hallway.

Another popular feature is the styled, energy-efficient, self-contained laundry room. The new laundry room can double as a mudroom provided there is ample space for family traffic.

Luxe Bathrooms: Shower, Tub, and Storage
A gorgeous bathroom with luxury touches adds not only monetary value to a home but also provides a sense of relaxation and pampering. There is nothing like a tidy, updated bathroom with a touch of the opulent, such as marble accents. To meet this need, increasingly homeowners were selecting to install both a glass shower stall and a bathtub in their elegantly appointed master bath. To keep this space neat, the bathroom linen closet was a must.
